Using the voice recognition within Microsoft Vista ultimate
Today is an exciting day for the Assistive technologies blog, because I’m using the voice recognition features built into the Microsoft Vista operating system to write this posting. Very few people know or understand how to use the voice recognition feature built into Vista so this posting is a call out to the “Art of the Possible” when using this powerful and agile Assistive feature.
Over the course of the next few months I will dictate a series of articles into this blog that literally talk about how you can use Windows Vista to control the Assistive technologies built into the Windows Vista operating system.
Using the built in voice recognition is much easier and then using third party products because it is so tightly coupled into the operating system all you need to do to get started is a microphone. There is an online configuration guide and a tutorial that you can use to train the system to your voice. Each time you use the system it refines itself so it is real time, behind the scenes self improvement. That is a feature that should be built into all applications
.
Again, the really cool thing is that I dictated that, hands free (albeit it took some toggling back and forth to the Vista Online Help to get the corrections, formatting and special characters right). I used my Wikipedia account ray.casey, and this is my first ever contribution, so let’s see if it holds up to the test of the hordes of Wikipedia editors and content police
